Most weekend guides for the Triad send you south to Greensboro. That misses what actually happens up here. Between late August and the first cool weekend of October, five Summerfield operators do the programming for the whole town, and if you follow their calendars you rarely need to leave the 27358.
Here is who they are, what they are running this stretch, and why the pattern is worth learning.

Summerfield Farms is functioning as the town's event department
If you have driven Pleasant Ridge Road recently you have seen the tent lines and the wagons. Summerfield Farms sits about 20 minutes north of downtown Greensboro as a working farm and event venue that raises 100 percent grass-fed and grass-finished beef and grows certified organic produce. That is the daytime business. The evening business is the reason your neighbors keep talking about it.
The programming rhythm is dense. The farm hosts multiple community events each month, from outdoor movie nights for the whole family to romantic wine dinners, with something on the calendar most weeks. A few pieces of the late-summer schedule worth pinning:
- 3rd Annual Summerfield Farms Fashion Show, presented by Otey Construction. Sunday, August 30, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Summerfield Farms.
- Rooftop wine tastings. Beverage Director Caren Kemp leads guests through each tasting, with each course expertly paired with a handcrafted drink or wine. These run on Thursdays on the rooftop through the warm months.
- The Immersive Supper. A five-course dinner with expertly selected drink pairings that unfolds across the farm's most picturesque settings, with guests riding a tractor-drawn wagon between courses. The food is curated in partnership with 1618 On Location, the Greensboro catering group. The evening starts under the Little Tree with appetizers and, in wet weather, moves inside the Pole Barn, which overlooks the farm.
Two things about that supper are useful to know before you buy tickets. It is 21 and up, and no outside food or beverage is permitted. Overnight accommodations are available on-site through [email protected]. If you have out-of-town family in for a weekend, this is the plan.
What West & Co. quietly does for adults
The other operator running frequent public programming sits at 4529 US Highway 220 North. West & Co. is a studio, not a restaurant, and that changes what a weekend evening in Summerfield can look like.
A recent snapshot of their calendar shows the range:

- Patriotic Paint Class
- Open Studio, generally in the late afternoon
- Pesto Making Class
- Chalk Paint Class
For a household that has done Luigi's for pizza a dozen times, a Tuesday-evening pesto workshop within five minutes of the driveway is a different category of plan. It also solves the summer-visit problem for anyone with a niece or nephew in town.
Lake Higgins Marina and the water most residents forget about
Ask a new Summerfield resident to name the closest place to get on the water and most will guess wrong. Lake Higgins is right here, and the marina programs the evening use of it. Lake Higgins Night Paddles run on weeknights in summer, listed for 8:00 PM at Lake Higgins Marina.
That is a specific window. Sunset in late August in Guilford County lands around 8:00 PM, which is why the paddle is scheduled where it is. If you have never done a guided paddle at dusk on a lake you drive past twice a week, that is the itinerary.
The market with the September date on it
The Saturday market matters more here than in a lot of towns because there is no Whole Foods in Summerfield and the farm-to-fridge distance is genuinely short. The date to circle:
Kids Entrepreneur Day. Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 9:00 AM at Northwest Guilford Farmers' Market in Summerfield. Children run booths. Neighbors buy from them. It is one of the two or three days a year the market functions as a full community event rather than a grocery run.
Where does the food come from between farm dinners?
A fair question. The everyday food scene in Summerfield is thinner than the events calendar, and pretending otherwise would insult a reader who already lives here. The honest map:
Weekend breakfast and pastries. Blue Vnilla at 1007 NC-150 operates as a wholesale bakery that also welcomes walk-ins during business hours. Local reviews mention owner Katie and the coffee-and-bakery pairing, treated as a "go to" spot by regulars.
Sit-down dinner without leaving town. Luigi's Restaurant Bar & Pizzeria at 1011 NC-150 remains the neighborhood's most consistent Italian. Peking Wok at 4446 US-220 handles the weeknight Chinese order.
When you want the polished version. For a real dinner out, the Green Valley Grill anchor in Greensboro is 20 minutes down US-220. Green Valley Grill serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch, features a wood-fired rotisserie and grill, and is described as the only restaurant in Greensboro to receive the Wine Spectator "Best of Award of Excellence." This is the reservation to make when the in-laws visit.
The pattern is clear once you look at it. Summerfield does not compete with Greensboro on restaurant density. It competes on programmed experiences at a small number of destination venues.
How to actually use this over a weekend
Two suggested shapes, both buildable from what is already on the calendar.

- Saturday morning at the Northwest Guilford Farmers' Market. Coffee and something from Blue Vnilla on the way home.
- Saturday afternoon Open Studio at West & Co. for anyone under 15 in the household.
- Saturday evening rooftop tasting at Summerfield Farms.
- Sunday morning walk on the farm property, then Luigi's for a late lunch.
The showing-off-Summerfield weekend, for visiting family.
- Friday night dinner at Green Valley Grill in Greensboro on the way back from the airport.
- Saturday afternoon at Summerfield Farms shopping the market and touring the grounds.
- Saturday night at the 3rd Annual Fashion Show on August 30, or the Immersive Supper if the dates line up.
- Sunday morning Lake Higgins walk, then home.
Neither of those plans requires a highway trip. That is the point.
What this pattern says about living here
The reason the calendar concentrates on five operators is structural. Summerfield's density does not support a wide restaurant row, so hospitality has organized itself into a smaller number of destination venues that program deeply instead of many venues that program lightly. A resident who follows five email lists — Summerfield Farms, West & Co., Blue Vnilla, the town calendar at summerfieldnc.gov's July 2026 town calendar page, and the farmers' market — sees almost everything worth seeing before it fills up. A resident who does not follow those lists sees the sold-out post afterward.
That is the local knowledge worth having. It is also why long-time Summerfield residents rarely complain about "nothing to do here." They know where the doors are.
